apan-based messaging app company LINE Corporation has introduced its first smart home device, WAVE, which is set to be launched this year as part of its bid to expand into artificial intelligence.
The introduction of WAVE follows an announcement at a 2017 Mobile World Congress event earlier this year on its in-house cloud virtual assistant, Clova. WAVE will be one of the first devices to incorporate the Clova service.
“Having focused on smartphones, LINE will migrate to artificial intelligence,” LINE Corporation chief strategy and marketing officer Jun Masuda said on Thursday.
WAVE will allow users to create calendars and to-do lists using voice command, talk with WAVE to get information about weather, manage the LINE app's chat messages and engage in casual conversation with the device.
Music is a core feature of WAVE and users will be able to enjoy approximately 40 million tracks and personalized recommendations on the LINE MUSIC streaming service.
“All of the services will be continuously updated,” Masuda said. WAVE is scheduled to go on sale in Japan later this year for ¥15,000 (US$136.86). (bbn)
