ational Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said the force has been heightening security measures over any possible terrorist attacks with Idul Fitri just around the corner.
He said he had ordered all police personnel to watch for terrorist networks, especially the ones suspected of planning attacks during the Islamic celebration next week.
“I don’t want to take a risk, especially after the Kampung Melayu [twin suicide bombing in East Jakarta in late May]. If there’s any movement, even if it is just little, [we will] catch them!” Tito said during a press conference at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters in South Jakarta on Monday.

He added that the police had detained at least 36 alleged terrorists across the country following the Kampung Melayu attack.
The latest was in Central Java, where the police arrested three alleged terrorists in Kendal and Temanggung regency. During the arrests, the police confiscated several cellphones, laptops, a bag full of chemical substances and propaganda books.

The day before, the West Nusa Tenggara Police apprehended two people allegedly linked to the Islamic State terrorist group and discovered bomb-making parts. According to an initial investigation, the suspects intended to detonate other bombs in several police headquarters, the police said.
Tito said, “The police guarantee that all citizens can have a safe and secure Ramadhan fasting month and Idul Fitri celebration.” (kuk/bbs)
