T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday named Bengkulu Governor Ridwan Mukti and his wife Lily Maddari suspects in a bribery case pertaining to infrastructure projects in the province.

Ridwan allegedly received Rp 1 billion (US$ 75,000) in bribes from PT Statika Mitra Sarana to rig the tender for two road development projects in Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province, KPK deputy chairman Alexander Marwata said.

“After 24 hours of questioning, it could be concluded there was a suspected promised fee received by the Bengkulu governor related to the projects,” Alexander told a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

PT Statika Mitra Sarana (SMS) president director Jhoni Wijaya, who allegedly handed over the bribe, has also been charged, along with another businessman, Rico Dian Sari.

Lily, meanwhile, allegedly served as the “middleman” in the case, the KPK said.

The alleged Rp 1 billion bribe is believed to be part of a 10 percent commitment fee for the project.

Jhoni allegedly promised to pay the governor Rp 4.7 billion to secure the projects in Rejang Lebong.

The total value of the two projects is Rp 53 billion.

During the raid on Tuesday, the KPK confiscated Rp 1 billion in cash at Ridwan’s house. (afr/ary)
