Three state high schools in West Jakarta had their power cut because of late payment of their electricity bills.
The schools are SMA 112 in Meruya Kembangan, SMA 85 in Srengseng and SMA 65 on Jl. Raya Panjang.
The students and teachers at SMA 65 reportedly could not use toilets because of the power cut.
West Jakarta Education Agency head Uripasih said that the agency was a month late in paying the electricity bills.
“We were one month in arrears, yet PLN cut off the electricity supply,” Uripasih said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
Uripasih said the payments were late because money from the Education Operational Fund (BOP) could only be disbursed once in three months.
Therefore, the agency would only be able to make the July and August payments in September, she said.
Uripasih further said that, despite the power cut, some rooms in the school still had access to the power supply.
Separately, Jakarta Education Agency deputy head Bowo Irianto said that the agency would borrow money from Bank DKI to pay for the electricity through the signing of a cooperation agreement.
The bank was preparing for a memorandum of understanding, he said. (cal)
