he Denpasar Police have arrested a Dutch citizen, Nicolas Denis Lijzaat, 46, for alleged drug possession at his house at the Puri Gading housing complex in Jimbaran, South Kuta, on Sunday.
The police seized 0.83 grams of hashish from the suspect during a raid.
Denpasar Police narcotics chief Comr. I Wayan Arta Ariawan said they had been investigating Lijzaat for several days before the arrest.
“We received information that there was a Dutch national who had often used hashish. Based on that information, we opened an investigation,” Arta said on Thursday.
According to the police, Lijzaat said the hashish was given to him by someone identified only as MD. “The suspect claimed MD gave him the drugs for free,” Arta said.
Lijzaat, who has lived in Bali for 15 years, told the police that he had never used hashish before the arrest. He faces a maximum sentence of 12 years' imprisonment if found guilty of violating the Criminal Code’s (KUHP) Article 111 on drug possession. (ebf)
