ingapore General Hospital doctors have performed further surgery on Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan, this time on his left eye, which was severely damaged in an acid attack in April.
The surgery lasted more than five hours, part of a major procedure to restore Novel's eyesight, which was damaged in the attack.
"The first stage of the operation on Novel was conducted yesterday between 8 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. It went well, and we hope it will improve his eyesight," KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah told reporters on Friday.
Febri said a second operation would take place in two months.
He added that after the first operation, Novel's condition would be monitored intensively for a week.
Novel had left Jami Al Ihsan Mosque in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on April 11, after attending predawn prayers when he was attacked.
As one of the KPK's top investigators, Novel has led investigations into several high-profile cases, including the ongoing e-ID embezzlement case that has implicated several lawmakers and high-ranking government officials.
