he airport-railway project that will connect Solo Balapan Station and Adi Sumarmo International Airport both in Surakarta, Central Java, will require the demolition of least 594 houses along the track, Surakarta Mayor FX Hadi “Rudy” Rudyatmo said on Monday.
“The inhabitants will be relocated. The required budget [for the relocation] will be provided by the Transportation Ministry,” he said, adding that most of the houses along the track were built illegally.
In addition, 129 plots of land would also be acquired to support the project, the mayor said.
Rudy said the affected residents would be notified beginning from next week.
“The city administration has established a taskforce involving representatives of the affected residents to help find suitable locations for relocation,” he said.

Last week, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the government aimed to finish relocation by October while the entire airport-railway project is expected to be finished in November 2018.
“I believe Surakarta has its own way, which is effective in land acquisition and relocation for the project,” the minister said in Surakarta.
The 13.5-kilometer railway project is forecast to cost Rp 1 trillion (US$75 million). The State Budget will cover 70 percent of the total cost while the rest will be covered by a consortium consisting of state-owned enterprises PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), PT Angkasa Pura 1 (AP 1), and PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PP).
