New policy package to be issued within week: Minister Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution (JP/Wienda Parwitasari)

C

oordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution said on Tuesday that the government would issue its 16th economic-policy package within one week to address various barriers to investment.

Darmin said President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had instructed the relevant ministers to immediately complete the drafting of the package. He, however, declined to comment further about the new package.

“It covers a wide range [of policies]. I will explain it later. It is too long [to explain it now],” said Darmin in Jakarta as reported by kontan.co.id.

Previously, Darmin said the 16th economic-policy package would lead to a single submission of permit documents to streamline the long bureaucratic process.

The minister stressed the President had demanded that ministries and other government institutions, which have the authority to issue permits, make the process simpler.

Darmin said the package would try to address various problems related to investment under the authority of ministries, government institutions and regional governments – regencies, mayoralties and provinces.

The government issued its 15th economic-policy package in June to improve logistics with the main goal of enhancing the role of transportation insurance, to reduce costs for logistics service providers, to strengthen the Indonesia National Single Window (INSW) authority and reduce the number of prohibited and restricted goods.
