orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators searched on Monday the house of former North Konawe regent Aswad Sulaeman in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, as part of their probe into a graft case.
“We can confirm our team has conducted an operation in North Konawe,” KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha told journalists at the antigraft body’s headquarters in Jakarta.
He declined to provide further details about the operation, saying that the KPK would offer more information about the case on Tuesday.
Antara reported that a joint team consisting of KPK investigators and police officers arrived at the regent’s house at around 11 a.m. local time.
Aswad was implicated in a graft case related to the construction of the regent’s office in the 2010-2011 fiscal year. The regional prosecutor’s office named him and 10 other people suspects in the case, which reportedly caused Rp 2.3 billion (US$170,000) in state losses.
In April, the Kendari District Court declared Aswad not guilty in the graft case, though prosecutors had demanded a three-year prison sentence. (ebf)
