he 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) commenced at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday, with secretary-general Xi Jinping delivering an opening speech in Beijing.
More than 2,200 delegates from all walks of life across China are slated to attend the one-week event, held at the Great Hall of the People.
The congress will cover four important agendas, including deliberating reports from the Party 18th Central Committee (CC) and the 18th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), deliberating and adopting amendments to the party's constitution, and electing the party's 19th CC and CCDI.
Later in the afternoon, discussions will be held by delegations from Hainan, Shaanxi, Ningxia, and Beijing-based state-owned enterprises.
On Thursday, there will be open discussions by 15 delegations in the morning and another 15 in the afternoon.
All open discussions will take place at separate halls named after the delegations’ respective province or region.
