akarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno plans to rent out cars belonging to City Council members to online ride-hailing companies with the aim of creating more jobs in the city.
According to a provincial government regulation on the administration and financial rights of council leaders and members, councillors should return their cars upon receiving a transportation allowance.
Sandiaga said on Wednesday that those cars should be used instead of be left to deteriorate due to neglect.
They should be rented out to online ride-hailing operators or other rental companies that needed cars, he added.
"I'm thinking about creating new jobs through a new strategic business unit. Maybe we can recruit some drivers, or Alexis valet parking drivers could join the program," Sandiaga said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He was referring to Alexis Hotel and massage parlor in North Jakarta, which had ceased operation on Tuesday after the city administration terminated its business permit.
The hotel’s management claimed 1,000 workers had been suspended after the closure.
Sandiaga said he had instructed the Jakarta Financial Management Body (BPAD) to review cooperation plans. (cal)
