he House of Representatives ethics council (MKD) is considering suspending Speaker Setya Novanto, who has been implicated in the e-ID graft case.
MKD deputy chairman Sarifuddin Sudding said on Thursday that the ethics council would discuss Setya's legal wrangle in the afternoon.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has issued an arrest warrant for the Golkar Party politician, who has failed to answer nearly a dozen KPK summonses.
In his latest attempt to evade KPK questioning, Setya invoked his right to impunity as a legislator, suggesting the KPK seek the President's permission to question him.
"We are following the case," Sudding said.
Sudding said it would be best to suspend Setya, whose whereabouts remain unknown, as he would not be able to do his job as House speaker.
Setya has been nowhere to be seen since Wednesday night, when KPK investigators went to his home in Kebayoran Baru in South Jakarta to arrest him.
"At this point, he can't do his activities, can he? It is safe to say that he can't," Sudding said. (ahw)
