akarta Governor Anies Baswedan has increased the budget allocation for his expert staffers in the city’s 2018 draft budget to Rp 28.5 billion (US$2.1 million) – much higher than the previous allocation of Rp 2.3 billion.
Anies said the budget had ballooned as in the past, staffers had been paid through funding schemes with private firms.
“If they are paid by private companies, there is high risk of conflict of interest. Hence, now we are making things transparent,” said Anies at City Hall on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.
He added that those who assisted the governor in creating policies must be paid by the city budget.
The payment allocation was set based on Gubernatorial Decree No. 163/ 2015 on the governor’s team for development acceleration.
Separately, a staff member of former governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said funds for expert staffers were usually taken from the governor’s operational fund.
“Why doesn’t Anies use the governor’s operational fund to pay his staffers?” former governor staffer Rian Ernest said. (agn)
