new Trade Ministry regulation that will restrict the e-cigarette trade has been signed and will take effect within three months, Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita told reporters on Monday.
“E-cigarettes can be publicly sold and imported only if the traders obtain recommendation letters from the Health Ministry and the products are certified with SNI [Indonesia National Standard],” Enggartiasto said.
“The regulation has been signed. After the regulation takes effect, we will inspect and take action [against reported violations].”
Previously, the Custom and Excise directorate general had announced the decision to apply a 57 percent excise duty on e-cigarettes starting on July 1, 2018. The ruling is stipulated in Finance Ministry regulation No. 146/2017.
