he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned on Wednesday former House of Representatives speaker Ade Komarudin as a witness in its investigation into the alleged involvement of Setya Novanto, the current House speaker and Golkar Party chairman, in the e-ID graft case.
Ade was seen arriving at the KPK office in South Jakarta at around 10:45 a.m. He was questioned in relation to the alleged roles of Setya in the case, which is said to have caused Rp 2.3 (US$170 million) in state losses.
“I've come here to fulfill the KPK’s summons,” Ade said as quoted by Antara.
Setya was taken to the KPK detention facility on Monday evening after recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident last Thursday, after evading questioning.
Ade was previously mentioned as among individuals that had reportedly benefited from the e-ID project. While reading out a verdict handed down to former Home Ministry officials Irman and Sugiharto in July, the Jakarta Corruption Court’s judge, Anwar, said Ade accepted $100,000 from the alleged collective graft.
Both Irman and Sugiharto were found guilty in the case. Irman was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, while Sugiharto got five years.
Following Setya’s arrest on Monday, KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said the antigraft body would summons several individuals to extract information about Setya’s alleged role in the case.
The graft case has implicated several lawmakers, government officials and executives of several private companies. (ebf)
