Artotel, a local hotel chain known for its distinct artistic design, is now operating in the city of culture, Yogyakarta.

Kanjeng Pangeran Haryo (KPH) Wironegoro of Yogyakarta Palace opened the Artotel Yogyakarta Hotel located at kilometer-point 5.5 of Jl. Kaliurang, Sleman regency, on Thursday evening.

The hotel has a modern architectural style combined with local cultural charm thanks to the work of six local artists and noted curator Heri Pemad, who have added an artistic touch to the hotel’s interior.

“I hope the hotel will not just be successful in terms of business, but also in terms of blending itself well with the surrounding community,” KPH Wironegoro said.

Owned by Rasanto Group of Semarang, Central Java, Artotel Yogyakarta is the fourth so far managed by the hotel chain after the three others in Bali, Jakarta and Surabaya. Artotel Yogyakarta is the third hotel owned Rasanto so far.

“Considering the success of Artotel hotels previously established in other cities, I believe that our investment here will not be in vain,” said Handoko Wignjowargo of Rasanto Group.

He expressed confidence that although Yogyakarta was considered saturated with hotel facilities, there were always peak seasons during which no hotel rooms were available in the city due to the massive influx of visitors.

“We have to be smart in finding new openings in this business where we can play (to be successful),” Handoko said.

”This is a perfect match for Jogja. The design, the concept is very close to Jogja,” said Artotel CEO Erastus Radjimin, referring to Yogyakarta by its popular nickname. (ebf)
