T MRT Jakarta, which is developing the Mass Rapid Transit in the city, has claimed that it follows proper regulations in carrying out its transportation project, including by maintaining the drainage system at the project's locations.

"Basically, we can ensure that what we are doing from the beginning is according to the Amdal [environmental impact analysis], and we always maintain the drainage system," MRT secretary Tubagus Hikmatullah told kompas.com on Wednesday.

He added that the residual materials resulted from the project were disposed of properly to avoid clogging waterways.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan blamed the MRT and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) projects for causing the floods, claiming that they obstructed the waterways. (fac)
