A

plane project initiated by former President BJ Habibie has received support from digital business ceknricek.com, a subsidiary of Bintang Group, which plans to raise funds through crowdfunding.

The project previously secured support in the form of crowdfunding from another digital platform, kitabisa.com, to finance the construction of the R80 plane, which is expected to be on sale in 2024.

The cooperation was signed by Ilham Habibie, the son of BJ Habibie, and the president directors of PT Regio Aviasi Industri and PT Bintang Angkasa Berjaya in Jakarta on Jan. 5.

To construct the prototype of the 80-seat R80 turbo plane, PT Regio Aviasi Industri needs US$1.5 billion.

Fikar said ceknricek.com would team up with kitabisa.com to raise funds at Diaspora Summit events in several major global cities.

“We plan to organize the [Diaspora Summit] event in four big cities -- Madrid, San Francisco, Melbourne and Tokyo,” Fikar said in a statement received by The Jakarta Post on Monday.

During the signing ceremony of the agreement, Ilham Bintang, the founder of Bintang Group, handed over a document to Ilham Habibie, explaining the plan to raise funds from Indonesian diaspora communities from all over the globe.

Ilham Habibie welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that such an effort would help promote the project to all Indonesians, including those living abroad.

“We do not expect a certain donation amount from each donor, but if there are one million donors, it will be very meaningful for us,” he said. (bbn)
