resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is expected to sign a draft regulation on electric cars, which involved preparations from several institutions.
“The process in the related ministries has been completed. The draft has been discussed at the State Secretariat, and we also invited other stakeholders,” said Munir Ahmad, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s technical and environment director in Jakarta on Wednesday as reported by tribunnews.com.
He said the draft only needed approval from the President before it became an enforceable regulation.
Among the institutions involved in drafting the regulation are the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Environment and Forestry Ministry, the National Energy Council (KEN) and state-owned electricity company PLN.
He, however, could not mention when the regulation, which will be in the form of a presidential regulation, would be issued. “We do not know the exact time, but it’s expected in the near future,” he added.
The presidential regulation, among other things, would regulate the elimination of fossil-fueled vehicles by 2040, the establishment of charging stations and the quota of electric cars. (bbn)
