he Jakarta administration is currently developing traffic management strategies that will be implemented during the 2018 Asian Games, which will take place in the capital and Palembang, South Sumatra, from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2.
Participating athletes will travel from the athletes’ village in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, to the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex, the main Asian Games venue, using various routes that cover toll roads and non-toll roads, according to Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.
The strategy will take several days to prepare, he added.
“We are currently conducting a few trial runs,” Anies said on Monday after a meeting on the event’s preparation as quoted by kompas.com.
The Asian Games Organizing Committee (AGOC) previously stated that travel times between the athletes’ village and GBK should not exceed 34 minutes.
The city still has to address several issues prior to the event, particularly decreasing traffic.
During a test event conducted recently, the travel time from the athletes’ village to GBK was about 60 minutes, according to Jakarta Transportation Agency deputy head Sigit Widjatmoko. (vny)
