t least five people have died with 18 still missing after landslides occurred on the slopes of Lio Mountain in Pasirpanjang village, Salem district, in Central Java’s Brebes on Thursday morning.
The landslides occurred around 8 a.m. following heavy rainfall in the area over the last couple of days.
The victims were farmers who were working their lands when they buried under the mass of moving soil. The victims included Karsini, 56, Casto, 48, Wati, 80, Radam, 59, and Kiswan, 45.
A search and rescue team is currently looking for 18 people reported missing after the incident, the head of Brebes Disaster Mitigation Office Eko Andalas said.

Spokesman of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the search for the missing people had encountered difficulties as the earth was still moving in the area.
Fourteen people in the area survived the landslide.
Some of them, who suffered from minor injuries, were brought to a nearby community health center (Puskesmas), said Salem district head Sudarmoko.
