C

orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators questioned several individuals in relation to a case in Kendari municipality, Southeast Sulawesi, a spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.

The antigraft agency conducted an operation in the city after receiving a tip-off, spokesman Febri Diansyah said, adding that the operation took place from Tuesday to Wednesday.

“We are questioning a number of people, including a regional head, businesspeople and other state officials,” he told reporters.

Febri, however, refused to disclose more information about the operation.

Local media reported that former Kendari mayor Asrun and his son, current Kendari Mayor Adriatma Dwi Putra, were among individuals questioned by graft busters.

Adriatma was elected mayor in the 2017 concurrent regional elections.  Asrun is a candidate in the upcoming Southeast Sulawesi gubernatorial election, while he previously served as Kendari mayor from 2007 to 2017.

The KPK opened an investigation last year into a case related to the management of the municipality’s tap-water company that implicated Asrun.
