outh Jakarta Police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing a motorbike on Jl. Setiabudi, South Jakarta after deceiving his victim with a gemstone.
South Jakarta Police crime unit chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Bismo Teguh Prakoso said on Thursday that the suspect had posed as a teacher from a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) and asked his victim for directions. In return, he offered a gemstone that he claimed to hold magical powers.
“The suspect told the victim that the gemstone had the magical ability to attract wealth, good health as well as bring good luck to his love life,” Bismo said as quoted by tempo.co.
Meanwhile, Bismo added, four of his friends acted as passersby interested in the gemstone, to distract the victim from the planned theft.
“To activate the power [of the gem stone], the suspect told the victim to walk 300 steps straight without looking back. Unfortunately, at the 100th step, the suspect stole the victim’s motorbike. His friends had also run away,” Bismo explained.
The police have confiscated the stolen motorbike and the gemstone as evidence. The suspect will be charged under the Criminal Code and may face four years’ imprisonment, while the four who allegedly aided the crime have been put on the police’s most-wanted list. (vla)
