rticles that penalize same-sex "indecent conduct" as a criminal act are still included in the recent version of the Criminal Code bill, says a member of the Criminal Code bill working committee.
On Tuesday, lawmaker Arsul Sani from the United Development Party (PPP) said his party, along with other Islamic parties, was against the decision to delete an article from the bill that said perbuatan cabul (same-sex indecent conduct) is a crime.
“Instead of deleting the article, we will revise it so that people won't see it as discriminatory,” Arsul said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.
According to him, some of the articles that have not been accepted include defamation against the President, premarital cohabitation, the death sentence, same-sex indecent conduct, contraception dissemination, corruption in the private sector and prison sentences.
“We will finish all of these articles before Aug. 17,” Arsul said, adding that the House of Representatives was aiming to finalize the bill on Aug. 17. (dpk)
