T

he police will give the Jakarta administration a warning if it fails to implement the police’s recommendation to review the closure of Jl. Jatibaru in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, after the Idul Fitri holiday, according to Jakarta Police Traffic director Sr. Comr. Yusuf.

Yusuf said he was still not sure whether the warning would be by an official letter or in other forms. “We will see that according to the situation later on, this is not the time yet,” Yusuf said on Saturday as reported by tempo.co.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan closed Jl. Jatibaru for motorists from morning until the afternoon on Dec. 22. Since then, dozens of street vendors (PKL) have set up their wares on the street. The administration closed the street for all motor vehicles except for the Transjakarta Tanah Abang Explorer.

In January, Jakarta police recommended that the administration review its closure of Jl. Jatibaru, citing traffic congestion along several streets near Jl. Jatibaru. On March 26, Ombudsman found maladministration in the policy of the Jl. Jatibaru closure and urged the administration to reopen the street within 60 days of the issuance of the finding.

Recently, Ombudsman extended the deadline of its recommendation to reopen Jl. Jatibaru to after the Idul Fitri holiday because the administration said it would be able to return Jl. Jatibaru to its original purpose after it had built a Tanah Abang pedestrian skybridge. (ami/evi)
