oll road operators and related agencies have emphasized that the integration of the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) payment system is not a pretext to increase the toll. Instead, it is aimed at increasing toll road services efficiency.
The statement was delivered by toll road operators and related agencies, including Bina Marga road agency, state-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga and the Indonesian Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT), on Thursday in response to criticism of the plan.
The government plans to integrate the JORR payment system, which will result in single toll for all ring road users, has been viewed by some as an effort to increase the toll.
Bina Marga Director General Arie Setiadi Moerwanto said with an integrated payment system, toll road users who previously had to pay two or three separate tolls would only pay once for whatever distance they took along JORR.
“The current system requiring users to make three transactions results in long lines at tollgates and service inefficiency,” he said, adding that paying a single toll would benefit more parties.
After the integration, a single toll of Rp 15,000 will be charged for category I cars to use JORR. Vehicles in other categories will pay more. With the new tolls, 61 percent of JORR users will pay a lower toll while 38 percent will pay more, the agency said.
BPJT head Herry Trisaputra Zuna said the single toll policy would be reviewed periodically. (evi)
