ndonesia and Thailand will discuss ways to increase cooperation in the trade and economic, security and political sectors during a joint meeting next week, a Foreign Ministry official said on Thursday.
Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi and her Thai counterpart, Don Pramudwinai, will attend the 9th Joint Commission Meeting in Yogyakarta on July 5 and 6, ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir told a weekly press briefing on Thursday.
“The two ministers will also talk about cooperation in mining, energy, agriculture and education,” he said.
The total value of trade between the two countries was US$15.74 billion in 2017, with Indonesia mainly exporting iron ore, coal, vehicle spare parts and seafood. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s main imports from Thailand were automotive products, as the latter is the hub for Japanese automotive production in Southeast Asia.
“Thai investment in Indonesia reached $220 million in 2017,” Arrmanatha added.
