N

ational Development Planning Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro has invited Russian businesspeople to invest in tourism and infrastructure, two sectors that are being given serious attention by the Indonesian government.

His statement was made at a recent event in Jakarta – the Indonesia-Russia Business Forum – organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Russia.

Bambang said that tourism and infrastructure were two key sectors of cooperation between the two countries.

“Through enhanced cooperation, Indonesia and Russia can increase trade between our two countries to overcome the global economic challenges posed by the increase of the [United States] Fed Fund Rate,” said Bambang as quoted by kontan.co.id on Sunday.

He said that currently 90 percent of Russian investment was in the hospitality sector, such as hotels and restaurants, mostly in Bali and the Nusa Tenggara islands.

Bambang, who is also the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) head, said Indonesia also invited Russian businesspeople to invest in special economic zones (KEK), ports and tourism infrastructure in the 10 regions currently being developed as the country’s major tourism destinations.
