nother round of the Jakarta Great Sale Festival (FJGS) began on Sunday with 82 shopping malls participating, said the chief organizer of FJGS 2018, Ellen Hidayat.
“[FJGS 2018] runs from Aug. 12 until Sept. 4 in almost all shopping malls across the city. The discounts are up to 70 percent,” she said, as quoted by kompas.com on Sunday.
Aside from regular discounts, Ellen added, 15 malls would also open for midnight sales. As many as 39 malls would offer a lottery for Shoppercard shopping vouchers worth Rp 140 million (US$9,600) in total.
Sixteen small businesses from the OK OCE program will also participate in the FJGS 2018 event.
The FJGS, which was introduced in 1982, is usually carried out to celebrate Jakarta’s anniversary. As such, a Great Sale was already held in June for the city’s anniversary, but another such event will be now to enliven the Asian Games.
“We attempt to lure spectators and athletes to the shops,” Ellen said.
Back in 1982, the city administration held an event called Festival Pertokoan (Shopping Festival). The name later changed to Pesta Diskon (Discount Party). In the 1990s, the city started using the name Jakarta Great Sale.
