ess than a year before the official kickoff of its commercial operation, the MRT in Jakarta has begun the testing and commissioning of its operation, which the operator says is satisfactory.
The testing and commissioning part is in the early phase in a series of trial runs the operator has planned before its official operation in March.
MRT Jakarta president director William Sabandar said since its first test on Aug. 9, which aimed to see the readiness of its train, signaling system and tracks, did not face any significant obstacles.

“Tests will be conducted every day until its official operation. So far, there have not been any negative reports, but we’ll see,” he said on Monday. The first phase of the MRT spans from Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta.
He added that during the first few days, the train moved at slow speeds, which was then gradually increased.
William said authorities from the Jakarta administration have begun discussing fares for the MRT.
