outh Korea won the gold medal from the women's bowling team of six event at the 18th Asian Games at the Jakabaring Bowling Center, Palembang, South Sumatra, on Friday.

Team Korea – consisting of Byul Han, Baek Seung-ja, Kim Hyun-mi, Lee Hyeon-ji, Ryu Seo-yeon and Lee Na-young – finished the competition with a total score of 8,338 points from six games.

Malaysia took the silver after collecting 8,149 points while Chinese Taipei got the bronze with 7,969 points.

“We had aimed to win this competition. We trained really hard in Korea. Our team performed really great, and that’s why we could finish first,” said Byul after the final game finished. ”Malaysia and Singapore were tough rivals at the event.”

Byul expressed her hope that bowling could be featured in the Olympics.

Host Indonesia finished fifth with a final score of 7,950 points. It was in second place by the second game, but fell to sixth later on.

“Two of our players were not in their best performance, so we lost 19 points to Chinese Taipei,” said Ronny Mandagi, the Indonesian bowling team manager. ”We still have another chance in the men’s team of six and men’s master event. We are optimistic we can win a medal in the men’s master.” (yan)
