Greater Jakarta: Student sentenced to four years

A

n 18-year-old student has been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment over a student brawl that left one person dead in Serpong, South Tangerang, in July.

At a hearing at the Tangerang District Court on Monday, Judge Tuty Haryati said the student, FF, had committed the serious crime of murder and spread fear among members of society.

However, the judge also said, as FF was underage at the time, it was expected that he could be guided to a better life.

Prosecutor Shinta Ratnaningsih said the prosecution side was waiting to see whether FF’s lawyers would appeal the sentence and was mulling its own response, tempo.co reported.

FF, a student of vocational high school Bhipuri Serpong, was arrested following a violent brawl on July 31 on Jl. Raya Puspiptek, Serpong. The brawl was between his school and students from vocational high school Sasmita Jaya 1.

During the brawl, Ahmad Fauzan, a student from Sasmita Jaya 1, was slashed in the face with a sickle. He was rushed to a hospital and underwent surgery but died on Aug. 7.
