tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I conducted its first-ever emergency response simulation on Ahmad Yani airport’s newest terminal in Semarang, Central Java.
The simulation, conducted on Thursday night, was aimed to drill airport staff on nighttime emergency situations in the airport’s newest terminal.
There were three exercises in the simulation, namely a fire-building exercise, an aviation security exercise and an aircraft accident exercise.
“The situation was designed to imitate possible real-life conditions with deaths, injuries and other possible outcomes that could occur during an emergency so they could be handled according to the Airport Emergency Document, the Airport Security Program Document and standard operating procedure,” PT Angkasa Pura I operational director Wendo Asrul Rose said at the Ahmad Yani airport on Thursday.
The emergency drill at the Semarang airport was the fourth drill conducted this year after Surabaya’s Juanda airport in East Java, Balikpapan’s SAMS Sepinggan airport in East Kalimantan and Manado’s Sam Ratulangi airport in North Sulawesi.
The airport’s management also launched a smartphone app called ECIS, short for Emergency Call Information System, to notify the Airport Emergency Committee of an emergency so it could be handled as quickly as possible.
The drill will also be conducted in other airports such as Solo’s Adi Soemarmo airport in Central Java, Kupang’s El Tari airport in East Nusa Tenggara and Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport. (ris)
