n a bid to increase connectivity across Indonesian cities, especially in the eastern part of the country, Garuda Indonesia officially opened a new route, Maumere-Denpasar, on Thursday.

East Nusa Tenggara's Maumere Regent Yoseph Ansar Rera said in a press release that he was hopeful the new route would ease access for business as well as pleasure from Bali to the region and vice versa.

The national flag carrier will serve passengers from Maumere to Denpasar four times a week on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday using ATR 72-600 aircraft that can accommodate 70 economy-class passengers.

Garuda Indonesia also launched on Thursday a daily direct flight, Jakarta-Kupang, using Bombardier CRJ 100 NextGen aircraft with a 96 economy-seat capacity. "This new route will allow travelers to easily access exotic destinations across East Nusa Tenggara," said the carrier's VP of corporate communications Benny S. Butarbutar.

The carrier currently provides several flights from Kupang, including to Surabaya, Denpasar, Ende and Tambolaka. With the opening of Maumere-Denpasar and Jakarta-Kupang, Garuda Indonesia now offers a total of 39 flights to and from East Nusa Tenggara per week, such as Jakarta-Denpasar-Kupang, Jakarta-Surabaya-Kupang, Denpasar-Tambolaka-Kupang and Denpasar-Labuan bajo-Ende-Kupang, all available every day.
