ollowing the death of one of the world's longest-reigning monarchs on Thursday, King Bhumibol Adulyadej age 88, tourists have been advised by embassies in Thailand to respect Thai people as they mourn his death.
"You should respect sensitivities of Thai people at this time, access to entertainment, including restaurants, bars and shopping areas may be restricted and you should behave respectfully when in public areas," stated Britain's Foreign Office in a travel advisory released by Reuters.

The Italian Embassy in Bangkok recommended residents and tourists to exercise caution and observe public order laws as well as to exhibit "maximum respect for the sentiment of Thai people".
In addition to a one year official mourning period, Thai government requested Thais to wear black and avoid "festivities" for 30 days. Friday was declared a government holiday, but the country's Stock Exchange and banks will operate as usual.
As the most popular tourist destination in Southeast Asia, Thailand expects to attract 33 million tourists by the end of this year. (kes)
