ihiwatu Resort, located on the coast of Sumba in East Nusa Tenggara, recently announced the opening of Chris and Charly’s Chocolate Factory, the resort’s very own chocolate factory.
According to a press release on Wednesday, the resort offers free access to both the factory and playground.
The hotel has worked together with Sumba residents to produce three types of chocolate -- 5 percent milk chocolate almonds and raisins, 70 percent dark chocolate and 85 percent dark chocolate -- using local cacao and palm sugar as main ingredients.

Live demonstrations of the chocolate-making process and tasting with Nihiwatu’s “chocolate wizard” are among activities that can be enjoyed by guests in the factory. Also, in an effort to provide funding for the hotel's non-profit Sumba Foundation, chocolate bars are available for purchase at the Nihiwatu Gift Shop to take home as souvenirs.
Nihiwatu Resort has won several awards this year. It was named the #1 Hotel in the World by Travel + Leisure Magazine and has been recognized as one of the greatest 50 hotels in the world by the Telegraph UK. (mra/kes)
