Budget airline AirAsia is set to fly to Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) from Kuala Lumpur starting 2017.

NTT Tourism and Creative Economy Agency head Marius Ardu Jelamu told the Antara news agency Wednesday that the upcoming Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta-Labuan Bajo route was part of an agreement between the government and the carrier.

"This service will allow foreign tourists to visit popular destinations in NTT," said Marius.

In addition to the new route, the agency has also proposed the opening of a Kupang-Dili-Darwin service. "Besides from the west, air connectivity from the south [Australia] to NTT is also a potential market, since it connects three countries." (mra/kes)
