ions Air’s subsidiary, Wings Air, has opened a new route connecting two cities in Southeast Sulawesi, Bau-Bau and Kendari, following increased demand.
Lion Air Group airport manager in Bau-Bau, Komang Astawa, told kompas.com that the new route was launched on Wednesday and would fly once per day.
The Bau-Bau administration had asked for the service to open since last year, but the airline only realized the plan this year as it was awaiting newly built planes from France.

Manufactured at the Avions De Transport Regional (ATR) factory, the turboprop powered ATR 72600 aircraft can accommodate 72 passengers.
With a flight duration of only 30 minutes, tickets for the flight range between Rp 200,000 (US$15) and Rp 500,000.
Residents of Bau-Bau, who previously had to travel to Kendari by ship, were reportedly pleased at the launch of the new air route. One resident, Maman, said he would now rather travel by plane due to the convenience. "Especially as the plane tickets are only Rp 10,000 more expensive than the ship tickets," he said. (mra/kes)
