n Indonesian was named the winner of “Be a Changi Millionaire” at Singapore’s Changi International Airport terminal 3 on Sunday afternoon.
Ade Iskandar Roni beat seven other finalists from Indonesia, Australia, China, India, Malaysia and United Arab Emirates and brought home S$1 million (US$699,704) in cash as the grand draw winner of the event.
Prior to winning the cash, Ade was required to play several games, which include a departure simulation, shopping simulation to match a set cost, as well as fitting a giant travel adapter into the socket on the podium for the final round, in which he beat other finalist Animesh Singh.
“I’m still shocked, nervous and in disbelief, but incredibly happy. I can’t imagine how much money a million Singapore dollars will look like, how big a stack it will be!” the procurement personnel in a telecommunications company said in tears after winning the competition.

Ade said that he would use the money to take his extended family on the umroh (minor haj) in Mecca and buy a car.
Ade was selected to participate in the event through a purchase of S$50 T-shirt, which he bought at the airport as a gift during his visit to Singapore for the first time in October.
“Be a Changi Millionaire” is a shopping promotion annually held by Changi Airport Group (CAG) since 2010, with the grand prize of S$1 million in cash. Passengers and airport visitors can participate by shopping or dining at the airport with a minimum purchase of S$50.

In its seventh installment in 2016, the event received around 1.2 million entries from 225 nationalities, collected from May 4 to Oct. 31. CAG stated that Singapore, Chinese and Indonesian citizens were among the top three groups of participants.
Since its first run in 2010, the grand prize has been given to seven winners from different countries, namely Ivan Rantung (2010) and Peh Hock Peng (2013) from Singapore, Jessica Down (2011) from Australia, Irvung Tio from Indonesia (2013), Oiyama Seiichiro from Japan (2014) and Linda Tobin from Ireland (2015).
