The Palais Galliera is set to house the first permanent fashion museum in France. The exhibit will be stationed in the museum’s 670-square-meter basement, along with its collection of art from the 18th century to the present.
“This initiative represents a lasting commitment to the creation and strength of Paris, which are at the heart of Chanel’s business,” said Chanel fashion president Bruno Pavlovsky.

The House of Chanel contributed €5.7 million to the project, according to Conde Nast Traveller.
“The city of Paris is proud to be able to open this exceptional space to Parisians and visitors from all over the world,” Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said in a statement on the Chanel News blog. “I would like to thank the House of Chanel for proving once again that Paris is the home of fashion.”
The Palais Galliera was already considered to be the city’s unofficial fashion museum but until now has only displayed temporary exhibitions. When the Gabrielle Chanel Rooms make their debut in 2019, it will mark the first permanent fashion exhibit in Paris’ history. (sul/kes)
