he Tourism Ministry kicked off on April 26 an event discussing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) tourism in Bangka Belitung. The gathering will run through April 28.
MICE tourism involves large groups of visitors who travel together on a pre-planned trip that usually has one particular purpose, such as a conference or workshop.

MICE tourism will play a significant part of the ministry’s 10 “New Bali” destinations, namely Lake Toba, North Sumatra; Bangka Belitung; Tanjung Lesung in Banten; the Thousand Islands and Kota Tua in Jakarta; Borobudur Temple, Central Java; Bromo-Tengger-Semeru in East Java; Mandalika Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara; Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara; Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi; and Morotai in North Maluku.
“We’re going to focus on finding opportunities for MICE tourism in these areas,” said Esthy Reko Astuti, archipelago tourism marketing development deputy at the Tourism Ministry. (kes)
