ourism Ministry Arief Yahya said he has spoken with the managing director of Thai Lion Air Mentari Co Ltd, captain Darsito Hendroseputro, about the airline adding new flight routes from Thailand to secondary cities across Indonesia, such as Surakarta in Central Java.
The two met at a World Travel and Tourism Council (WTCC) event in Bangkok that ran on April 25-27.
“There are still landing slots available for international flights [in Surakarta],” Arief said.
Darsito agreed to the request and said he would take care of the landing slots in both Don Mueang International Airport in Thailand, and Adisumarmo International Airport in Surakarta.

“Thailand itself welcomed 30 million foreign tourists; 10 million from China. Meanwhile, flights to Jakarta only take three hours and around four hours to Bali, so it’s very ideal,” added Arief.
Darsito said that there was a new trend among Chinese tourists to travel to more than one country or city. From the 10 million Chinese tourists visiting Thailand, he is confident that the company could convince at least 10 percent or 1 million of them to fly to Central Java.
“We have flights from 12 cities in China to Thailand […] We have been operating 26 aircraft for four years and going to add two more in 2017, so there’ll be 28 airplanes in total,” he added. (kes)
