The upcoming Tomohon International Flower Festival (TIFF) 2017, which is scheduled for this August, has been launched at a Car Free Day event in North Sulawesi.
here was an unusual scene happening in the latest Car Free Day on May 21. The provincial government of North Sulawesi and Tomohon City showcased a parade of mini-carnival, Kabasaran dance and flower-decorated cars on the way to the Sapta Pesona Building, the headquarters of the Tourism Ministry.
The festivities launched the Tomohon International Flower Festival (TIFF) 2017 coming this August. It continued inside the Sapta Pesona building with a kolintang performance, a traditional dance from Minahasa and the introduction of the TIFF mascot named Kristo, taken from Tomohon’s famous flower, the krisan. There was also a showcase of the seven best destinations of the region called the Seven Wonders of Tomohon.

TIFF 2017 will advocate The 7 Wonders of Tomohon theme promoting destinations of seven mountains (Lokon, Empung, Tatawiran, Mahawu, Tampusu, Masarang and Kasuratan mountains), seven lakes (Tampusu, Linow, Pangolombian, Sineleyan, Panunuzaen, Linow Oki, and Kasewean lakes) and seven waterfalls (Tapahan Rinokrok, Tumimperas, Regesan, Ranowawa,TekaanTelu, Kanderawatu and Kinapesutan waterfalls).
Tomohon Mayor Jimmy Feidie Eman said 26,261 foreign tourists and 244,563 domestic ones visited Tomohon last year. “For TIFF 2017, our target for foreign tourists who will come to Tomohon in August is 6,000 people and for local tourists it is 160,000,” said Eman.

There are five main events in TIFF 2017, including the Tournament of Flowers on Aug. 8, which is a parade of decorated cars with representatives from neighboring countries, as well as provinces and regencies from all across Indonesia, state-owned enterprises, province-owned enterprises and private companies. There will also be a flower-themed fashion show by local and national designers on the same day.
There will be a Ratu Bunga Nusantara beauty pageant running from Aug. 7 to 10. For travelers who love arts and culture exhibitions, there will be a display of national heritage from Aug. 8 to 12.
From Aug. 7 to 12 there will be a Tourism, Trade, Investment and Floriculture Expo promoting flower farming and gardens among other exhibitions. (asw)
