ow cost carrier AirAsia has opened a new route from Narita International Airport in Tokyo, Japan, to Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.

On Thursday, AirAsia X’s maiden flight, with the flight number XT402, landed for the first time in Bali from Narita. Using an Airbus A330-300 plane, the flight was 93 percent occupied.

In Ngurah Rai, arriving passengers were welcomed by a performance of traditional Balinese dance. A press conference was later held at the Novotel Bandara Ngurah Rai attended by representatives of the Tourism Ministry, Transportation Ministry, Consulate General of Japan in Denpasar, Japan National Tourism Organization and AirAsia.

“We are very keen about the opening of this new route as this gives more options for tourists from both Indonesia and Japan. Both countries will reap the benefit from this direct flight, especially in the economic and tourism sectors,” said Hirohisa Chiba of Consulate General of Japan in Denpasar.

“With 93 percent of the seats occupied in this first flight, we are going to add more flights from four times a week to daily flights beginning June 16,” said Dendy Kurniawan, AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Indonesia operations. (kes)
