he annual Bali Arts Festival (PKB) is getting a millennial treatment with a photography competition aimed at Instagram users. With official hashtags #PestaKesenianBali2017 and #PKB2017, participants can upload PKB 2017-related photos throughout the event to be held from June 10 to July 8.
Of Indonesia's total population of over 250 million people, millions are connected to the internet and 95 percent have social media accounts.
“Instagram is the ‘it’ application at the moment, with a number that has grown to 14 million accounts,” said Tourism Ministry archipelago tourism marketing development deputy Esthy Reko Astuti.

Data from the ministry shows that 89 percent of Instagram users are aged between 18 to 35, 62 percent of whom are female while 38 percent are male. Eighty-five percent of Indonesian Instagram users link their accounts to other social media platforms such as Facebook, Path and Twitter, the data shows.
This is the second time the Instagram photography competition will be held during the festival, which will celebrate its 39th year. During PKB 2016, of 2,988 photos posted on the photo-sharing app, three winners were announced. (asw)
