T

he annual Jakarta Fair, which celebrates the capital city’s anniversary is set to be held from June 8 to July 16 at Jakarta International Expo (JIE) Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

Consisting of five large halls and an open space, the event will provide special spots for food enthusiasts as part of the fair’s 50th anniversary. Among them is the Kuliner (culinary) Jakarta Fair located right behind Hall D, featuring 50 tenants that sell 50 types of Indonesian traditional dishes like sate Padang (Padang-style satay) ajo laweh, ayam taliwang Summagung (grilled chicken Summagung) and kupat tahu (chopped fried tofu served with rice cakes, blanched bean sprouts and peanut sauce) Magelang. The tenants’ booths will be designed to resemble saung (huts) made of bamboo.

Still behind Hall D, visitors will also find Betawi traditional cuisine at the Kampung Betawi area, featuring various old-time foods that are hard to find nowadays, such as nasi ulam (steamed rice mixed with various herbs), soto mie (clear soup served with egg noodle, spring roll and diced beef) and laksa Betawi (Betawi spicy noodle soup).

Unlike last year, the Jakarta Fair will present the Pasar Malam (night market) behind Hall E. Adopting a modern-style night market, visitors can expect to enjoy their iftar dishes or simply relax while sipping a cup of coffee. The market is set to host at least 36 booths selling Indonesian snacks and main dishes, such as tahu gejrot (fried tofu in sweet spicy sauce), gulali (sugar), martabak (stuffed fried pancake) and satay.

The fair's management team will also provide free takjil (light iftar snacks) for the visitors in the main stage area during the holy month of Ramadhan.

Other events that can be attended during the Jakarta Fair are the Miss Jakarta Fair contest, cosplay contest, fireworks festival and cultural performances at the Gambir Expo. (kes)
