“Two hundred professional artists are involved in this show. The Lebaran exodus is a tradition for most Javanese, which sees them travel to their hometowns. The Surakarta city administration has initiated this event to entertain travelers as they return to Surakarta,” explained Esthy Reko Astuti, who oversees the Tourism Ministry’s tourism marketing.
The performance is free of charge and starts at 07:30 p.m. The Ramayana opera has become an annual event in Surakarta, and this year marks the third time it is held. Last year, the event attracted around 2,000 visitors every night. (asw)
