he eighth Dieng Culture Festival (DCF) in Wonosobo, Central Java, will be held as planned on Aug. 4-6, despite Sunday's eruption at the Sileri Crater.
DCF committee head Alif Fauzi said the eruption occurred 6 kilometers from the main Dieng area and had been identified as a phreatic eruption, resulting in the spewing of mud and sulfuric smoke.
Alif explained that the Sileri Crater was located in an area that did not directly impact the main tourist area and the crater did not have a history of producing poisonous gas.
“It’s safe, but we’ll keep monitoring the sulfur content [of the crater],” he said.

Themed “The Spirit of Culture,” the festival will feature several activities, such as a Cukur Rambut (hair cutting) ritual, Gembel music performances dubbed Atas Awan Acoustic, a cultural and art parade, a lantern festival and a small and medium enterprises exhibition.
The location of the festival is at Arjuna Temple in the Dieng Plateau temple complex. About 3,500 tickets will be on sale priced at Rp 300,000 (US$22.42) each. (kes)
