Six eco-friendly accommodation options for green travelers

ifty-eight percent of hotel guests prefer to stay in eco-friendly properties according to a survey conducted by online accommodation booking platform Agoda.
“Nearly 40 percent would spend an extra US$10 a night to sleep in a sustainable property,” said Agoda International Indonesia country director Gede Gunawan in a press release.
Following up the data, Agoda recommends six eco-friendly accommodation options around the region for green travelers.
Soori Bali, Bali
Visitors to Bali may want to check out Soori Bali. Situated on the coast of Uluwatu, the property was built using recycled material. As for the design, the luxury boutique villas and residences were planned to blend into the surrounding hilltops and maintain the natural flora and fauna.

Hotel Icon, Hong Kong
Dedicated to eco-tourist education and environmental sustainability, Hotel Icon in Hong Kong boasts over 8,000 plants in its sky-high vertical garden. To support its eco-friendly concept, the hotel applies energy-efficient cooling and heating systems, natural lighting, ventilation, paperless check-in protocols, a garbage recycling program and a food donation program.
In addition to these environmentally friendly features, Hotel Icon also offers a Green Limousine Service from Tesla to send travelers to and from the airport.
ParkRoyal on Pickering, Singapore
Taking a hotel-in-a-garden as its concept, ParkRoyal on Pickering, Singapore, was named Asia’s Leading Green Hotel at the World Travel Awards for two consecutive years. The green hotel is recognized for its rainwater harvesting program, solar panels and LED lights.
Moreover, hotel guests can also enjoy open-air corridors and waterfalls along a 300 meter-long garden walk.

El Nido Pangulasia, Philippines
El Nido Pangulasia is a resort located on Palawan Island, the Philippines. Applying a zero-waste concept, the property ensures that no waste is discharged into the sea and segregates wastes before recycling it.
Furthermore, the property has committed to serving sustainable seafood on its menu and it only offers low impact water activities such as kayaking and snorkeling to protect the environment.
Gayana Eco Resort, Malaysia
Located 10 minutes away from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, Gayana Eco Resort on Gaya Island allows guests to enjoy the natural environment with its over-water feature glass floors and outdoor hot tubs.
With its commitment to protecting the environment, the eco resort has established its own marine ecology research center to protect coral-reef and endangered giant clams.
Song Saa Private Island, Cambodia
Those looking for a property that applies a sustainability ethos in Cambodia may want to consider Song Saa Private Island.
Located on Koh Rong Island, the property was designed to preserve marine life. The environmentally friendly resort also recycles all the water used on the island and has reintroduced native vegetation around the resort.
In regards to its interior design, the resort is said to use driftwood and recycled wood from old Cambodian fishing boats for the furniture. (kes)
