Riau Islands is slated to host Kepri Carnival 2017 at Gedung Daerah in Tanjungpinang on Oct. 21.

“The parade will be filled with colorful costumes; this event is equally as good as Jember Fashion Carnaval, Banyuwangi Ehno Carnival, Solo Batik Carnaval and Malang Flower Carnival,” said Riau Islands Tourism Agency head, Buralimar.

“It will also host Mendu Natuna art, Gobang from Anambas, Mak Yong art from Batam and Bintan, Dangkong dance from Lingga and Karimun, as well as cultural and decorated vehicle parade,” Buralimar added.

Hundreds of people coming from across Tanjungpinang are expected to take part in the parade. Around 70 cars are said to compete for the best design and join the cultural parade that will feature more than 120 talents.

Tourism Ministry's archipelago tourism marketing development deputy Esthy Reko Astuti praised Tanjungpinang for initiating such event.

“The grand carnival concept includes the 4Es concept, which is Education, Entertainment, Exhibition and Economic benefit. We want this carnival to become the leading tourist attraction that can improve other tourism-related businesses such as hotel, restaurant, transportation, souvenirs, local dishes and others,” said Esthy.‎ (kes)
